1,110 participants begin day two of $2.4 million, 60-km weekend walk
August 15, 2010, Vancouver - The BC Cancer Foundation announced yesterday that 1,100 participants raised over $2.4 million in its seventh annual Shoppers Drug Mart® Weekend to End Women’s Cancers™, the Foundation’s signature, 60-km walk to support cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency.

Personalized genome sequencing in cancer treatment—a major breakthrough in care
August 9, 2010, Vancouver - Researchers at the BC Cancer Agency Genome Sciences Centre have provided the first published example of genome-scale RNA and DNA sequencing of a tumour to aid in clinical decision making and therapeutic choice.

BC scientists develop new drug candidate for prostate cancer
June 15, 2010 - Scientists in B.C. have developed a unique experimental drug, EPI-001, that shrinks prostate cancer tumours in the lab. The breakthrough came from the research groups of Dr. Marianne Sadar, Senior Scientist, BC Cancer Agency and Dr. Raymond Andersen, Professor, University of British Columbia.

BMO Financial Group helps patients and families affected by cancer on Vancouver Island
June 14, 2010 - BMO Financial Group announces a donation of $125,000 to the BC Cancer Foundation’s Inspire the World campaign. This gift will help support the creation of the BMO Relaxation and Exercise Studio in the newly renovated area of the BC Cancer Agency’s Vancouver Island Centre. This space will provide a customized area for special exercise classes, which will benefit patients with various types of cancer. For example there will be upper body strength classes for breast cancer patients.

Scientists generate promising new model for predicting how individual lung tumours will respond to different drugs
February 23, 2010 - Vancouver, B.C. - Scientists at the BC Cancer Agency and Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute have generated a promising new method that may one day aid oncologists in the faster identification of which chemotherapy regimens may be useful for treating a particular patient’s non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and which are unlikely to be effective.

Norgaard Foundation's $250,000 donation to Inspire the World lifts capital campaign over $5 million threshold

BC Cancer Agency unlocks clues to Lymphoma
January 18, 2010 - Vancouver, B.C. - BC Cancer Agency researchers have identified a never before seen mutation (or DNA spelling mistake), in the two most common types of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. No other types of lymphoma or other cancers have been found to contain this particular mutation.
