VICTORIA, B.C. – The BC Cancer Foundation’s 12th annual Jingle Mingle, presented by Thrifty Foods, has raised an incredible $754,000 to underpin critical research on the island in one of the world’s most promising areas of oncology: immunotherapy.

Fueled by 350 generous Jingle Mingle guests, the gift of advanced cancer care on Vancouver Island is on its way to patients. Funds will directly support groundbreaking immunotherapy development conducted at BC Cancer’s Deeley Research Centre (DRC), one of the first sites in the world to pioneer research of its kind.

“We’re immensely thankful to the Victoria community and are thrilled to be so close to the launch of our clinical trials of two promising new immunotherapies,” says Dr. Brad Nelson, director and distinguished scientist, BC Cancer’s Deeley Research Centre. “This year’s event celebrates decades of critical research and without a doubt 2019 will be our most exciting year yet.”

Dollars raised will allow scientists to generate more precise and potent immune responses against cancer, and bring hope to British Columbians facing cancer on the island, and beyond.

With a sold-out crowd at Victoria’s Fairmont Empress Hotel, the festive Whoville-themed evening began on an inspirational note with a gift of $350,000 announced on behalf of Victoria’s Lorna Shaw to support this year’s focus at the DRC.

“Thanks to generous individuals like Lorna Shaw, our community of donors and grateful patients on the island, we’re one step closer to the launch of world-first immunotherapy trials that hold promise to change outcomes," says Sarah Roth, President and CEO, BC Cancer Foundation.

Holiday cheer was spread throughout the ballroom all evening as guests enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres and cocktails, entertainment, a live auction and the chance to purchase a mystery box filled with various gifts donated by local businesses and artisans.

The BC Cancer Foundation’s Jingle Mingle has raised more than $7 million in its 12-year history, supporting BC Cancer’s brilliant clinicians and scientists to provide the Island community with world-class research and care today.
