President & CEO, BC Cancer Foundation

Hi everyone,

I want to start by thanking our most recent guest blogger Dr. Juanita Crook. As you read in Dr. Crook’s fascinating posts, HDR brachytherapy is changing the cancer landscape in our province. We are fortunate to have such a high level of expertise and leadership at the BC Cancer Agency as this program continues to grow.

As many of you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer continues to be the most common cancer affecting women in B.C. — this year an estimated 3,200 British Columbians will be diagnosed. But thanks to great strides in research and care, more women are surviving this difficult journey. In recent months, the BC Cancer Agency has announced breakthroughs in breast cancer research that are impacting our understanding of the disease. And as Dr. Crook highlighted, this research is also translating into cutting-edge new treatment options like HDR brachytherapy.

The BC Cancer Foundation has started a brand new MOVEment to ensure breast cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency continues to achieve great results. Bust a Move is a day-long fitness fundraising extravaganza taking place on April 13, 2013. It is a meaningful opportunity to make a difference for all those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer, by supporting the amazing research happening in B.C.

I encourage you all to visit www.bustamove.ca to learn more and register today.

Douglas
