Dr. Juanita Crook
Radiation Oncologist and Chair in Brachytherapy
BC Cancer – Kelowna
Dr. Juanita Crook is a Professor of Radiation Oncologist at BC Cancer, situated in Kelowna and a pioneer in the field of brachytherapy – a quick and highly effective form of treatment that delivers radiation directly into a tumour via either permanently implanted radioactive seeds, or by creating a scaffolding of hollow needles arranged in the tumor and through which a single highly potent radioactive seed negotiates its way to deliver the required radiation. Known globally as a leading expert in the field, Dr. Crook’s dedication to advancing scientific breakthroughs, moving the dial in medicine, fostering leadership and academic excellence has garnered accolades and respect from doctors and peers across North America and Europe.
Dr. Dan Le
Medical Oncologist
BC Cancer – Surrey
Dr. Dan Le is a medical oncologist at BC Cancer – Surrey specializing in breast, gastrointestinal, and central nervous system malignancies. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Faculty of Medicine at UBC and the Managing Director of the BC Cancer Medical and Dental Staff Association. He has been recognized with provincial and national awards including the 2012 Rising Star Health Service Award as well as the Pfizer Canada ASPIRE Breast Cancer Early Investigator Research Award.
Dr. David Scott
Deputy Head, Department of Lymphoid Cancer Research and Clinical Director of BC Cancer’s Centre for Lymphoid Cancer
Dr. David Scott is Deputy Head at Department of Lymphoid Cancer Research, Clinical Director at Centre for Lymphoid Cancer and Associate Professor at Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia. Dr. Scott’s lab focuses on discovery and development of clinically relevant biomarkers to improve disease classification and patient care. He has a strong track record of discovery of biomarkers applicable to aggressive B-cell lymphomas and is recognized as an expert in biomarkers and the tumor microenvironment of these diseases. Dr. Scott has developed prognostic and predictive biomarker assays and filed four patents to date, which reflects the true translational nature of his research.
Doug Chambers
Chair, BC Cancer Foundation’s Beyond Belief Cabinet
Doug is an Investment Advisor and Portfolio Manager at Odlum Brown Limited. He is also the Branch Manager for Kelowna, as well as a Director for the company. Doug is a longstanding catalyst in the Interior region, as chair of the Beyond Belief Campaign Cabinet. Doug brings an international resume and a close-knit, community-minded approach to bring about transformative change to his role as Chair, Beyond Belief Campaign Cabinet.
