Victoria, B.C. – The BC Cancer Foundation’s Jingle Mingle and Jingle Soirée kicked-off the season of giving in style with over 230 Victorians raising an outstanding $1 million for life-changing cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency’s Vancouver Island Centre.
Three-time cancer patient Laurene Clark spoke to guests about the opportunity to support those embarking on a cancer journey, “I ask you to take a leap of faith with me and the BC Cancer Foundation so we can fundamentally change the way in which cancer patients and their families interact with and experience the cancer journey right here in our community,” she said. Over a year-and-a-half ago Clark faced a grim diagnosis, and she placed her future in the hands of her oncologist and care team, and is alive today because of it.
Guests raised their paddles, making generous gifts in support of the Patient Navigation Research Program at the BC Cancer Agency’s Vancouver Island Centre. A $500,000 gift from Jo Campbell had guests rise to an emotional standing ovation.
President & CEO of the BC Cancer Foundation, Douglas Nelson shared, “Today, thanks to our Jingle Mingle supporters, researchers at the BC Cancer Agency will begin their work identifying the best platform to help patients and families on Vancouver Island navigate their cancer care.” Funds raised will also advance the ongoing world-class research initiatives taking place at the BC Cancer Agency’s Deeley Lab in Victoria.
Guests bid on high-end experiences to the likes of cruising the Mediterranean from an ocean-view room to a local gourmet feast at the historic Highwood House complete with a private performance by the renowned Ken Lavigne.
Bonnie A. Campbell, Jingle Mingle Chair, said, “I want to offer my sincere gratitude to the hundreds of generous businesses and individuals who supported Jingle Mingle—your generosity enables us to maximize the funds raised for the benefit of cancer patients and their families in our community.
Campbell also honoured her father, the late Alex A. Campbell and his legacy of community support—thanking him for instilling in her the value of giving back.
Following the Jingle Mingle cocktail party a group of guests continued on to enjoy an exclusive dinner experience at Pescatores for the Jingle Soirée.
