Canada Post Labour Disruption FAQs

I was going to send a donation in the mail, what are other options to donate during the Canada Post labour disruption?

There are three easy alternatives to donate to the BC Cancer Foundation:

I sent in a cheque/cash/credit card donation in the mail already, but it hasn’t been processed. What happens now?

Once Canada Post activities are resumed and mail is delivered regularly, your donation will be received and processed, and we will send you a tax receipt, if eligible.

I sent in a donation via mail just before the labour disruption started, but I have since donated online. Will you still process my other donation?

If you prefer us not to process your mailed-in donation because you have donated via alternate ways, please contact us at advancementservices@bccancer.bc.ca or 778.653.0045.

If you get my donation once the postal activity has resumed, will it still qualify for the Technology Transformation match?

All gifts received by October 31, 2025 will qualify for the match. If your gift is postmarked by October 31 it will qualify for the match. To ensure your gift is matched, please consider one of the alternative donation methods available.

I asked for my tax receipt to be sent by mail, can I change to email?

Yes, if you would prefer to receive your tax receipt by email, please contact us at advancementservices@bccancer.bc.ca or 778.653.0045.

Can I pick up my tax receipt from one of your offices?

Currently, in-person tax receipt pickup is only available at our Vancouver office. Please call 778.653.0045 to schedule a pickup time.

2024 Charitable Tax Deadline Extension FAQs

What is the new deadline for taxpayers to make charitable donations that qualify for tax support for the 2024 tax year?

The Government of Canada has extended the deadline to February 28, 2025 for taxpayers to make charitable donations that qualify for tax support for the 2024 tax year.

Why was the tax deadline extended?

The extension was granted due to the Canada Post disruption, which may have delayed mailed donations in late 2024.

Will tax receipts be dated differently?

No. Tax receipts will be dated when your donation is received or postmarked.

How can I apply this to my 2024 taxes?

You can submit tax receipts dated from Jan. 1 to Feb. 28, 2025 for either your 2024 or 2025 tax return.

What types of donations qualify for a 2024 tax receipt under the extension?

Eligible donations include online gifts, mailed cheques (postmarked by February 28, 2025) or gifts made over the phone.

Please note the 2024 extension does not apply to gifts of securities.

I’m a monthly donor. How does this impact my tax receipt?

To request a January or February 2025 tax receipt to apply to your 2024 tax return, please contact us at advancementservices@bccancer.bc.ca or 778-653-0045.
