October 6, 2025

As families come together to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, we’re reminded of the importance of what matters most – health, hope and giving back.

This autumn, your gift can go twice as far, thanks to the generosity of Peterson and the Yeung family. Until October 31, donations to the Technology Transformation campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar.

The campaign will help bring state-of-the-art technologies to BC Cancer that will transform cancer care — including Canada’s first Next Generation PET/CT scanner and Photon Counting CT scanner, a Contrast Enhanced Mammography (CEM) unit and more.

From Cancer to Hope

“Cancer is a deeply personal and often overwhelming journey — one that has impacted our families, friends and team members,” say siblings Ben Yeung and Jane Young.

Their late mother, Rose, was diagnosed with breast cancer and shortly after, Jane faced the same diagnosis herself.

Reflecting on their experiences, Jane says it shifted her family’s perspective of what truly matters: “It brought a deeper appreciation for our time together, for the little things and the small joys. It taught us patience, resilience and the importance of living in the present, as well as the power of hope.

“We need hope in life because it’s what keeps us moving forward, even when the path is uncertain or difficult.”

Personal Experiences at BC Cancer

Throughout their journeys, the Yeung family found hope and support at BC Cancer.

Rose’s “exceptional care” gave her more than 20 years of good health, extending her precious time with loved ones.

Jane recalls her own experience as one “marked with compassion, professionalism and genuine care.” She says, “The doctors, nurses and support staff treated me with patience, respect and kindness, and I felt supported through every step of my cancer journey.”

Bringing Hope to Other Families

Ben and Jane’s late parents founded Peterson, a real estate and investment group, built on a strong commitment to giving back to the communities they were part of. Today, Ben leads the company, and together, the siblings are dedicated to continuing their parents’ legacy.

“We are grateful for the care we received at BC Cancer and supporting the BC Cancer Foundation is our way of paying it forward,” says Jane.

With cancer diagnoses in B.C. expected to rise by 33% over the next decade, due to an aging and growing population, the need for groundbreaking advancements at BC Cancer has never been more urgent.

“We’re proud to stand behind the cutting-edge innovation happening at BC Cancer,” says Ben and Jane, who understand firsthand how advancements in care can transform the patient experience. Breakthrough technologies will enable patients to receive more personalized care, allowing for earlier detection, more precise diagnoses and tailored treatments.

Dr. François Bénard, BC Cancer’s Senior Executive Director of Research, shares, “These technologies give us insights we’ve only dreamed of. They allow us to see cancer in remarkable detail, monitor how it’s responding to treatment and adapt care in real time. This is a powerful leap forward in precision oncology and it’s only possible because of the generosity of donors.”

Your gift will help equip BC Cancer with state-of-the-art imaging, diagnostic and radiation technologies, providing faster answers, better outcomes and renewed hope for patients and their families.
