It's a full day of four-on-four road hockey in support of life-saving cancer research in British Columbia.
VANCOUVER, B.C. – Canuck alumnus Darcy Rota traded in ice skates for sneakers to play a friendly road hockey match at the Canucks Party on the Plaza, launching the 2013 Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer with the BC Cancer Foundation. Registration is now open for the fundraising event that will see teams converge at the Concord Pacific grounds on September 14, 2013, for a full day of four-on-four road hockey in support of life-saving cancer research in British Columbia.
As an Honorary Chair with Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer, Darcy Rota is committed to the event that sees Canada’s favourite game of hockey team-up with fundraising efforts to conquer Canada’s most devastating disease—cancer.
“This event is going to be a blast, I encourage you to register today at teamuptoconquercancer.ca and help make a difference in the lives of people in every community who face cancer,” said Rota, who will be a part of the event’s Celebrity Draft. Top fundraising teams take part in a pre-event draft of former NHLers, celebrities and pro-athletes to gain a valuable player for game-day.
After competing with the former Canuck sniper in a friendly shoot-out, Douglas Nelson, President and CEO of the BC Cancer Foundation said: “It’s time to tape-up your stick, practice your wrist-shot and get ready to face-off against cancer.” He added Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer is poised to make a serious impact on cancer research in B.C., as funds raised will support initiatives at the BC Cancer Agency with the most promise to dramatically improve cancer care.
Ready to compete in the 2013 Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer, “Team Christine” from Freedom 55 Financial already has their creative thinking helmets on to ensure they top the fundraising score-board and secure a celebrity draft-pick.
“We had such a blast playing in Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer last year, and can’t wait to build up our 2013 fundraising board and try and regain top spot in the Celebrity Draft!” said Jarnael Payer of Freedom 55 Financial. “For us, this event brings together advisors from several offices to take part in a fun, active event in support of cancer research—a cause that will help improve the lives of so many we know.”
Over 24,000 British Columbians will be diagnosed with cancer this year. Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer will advance research, leading to new discoveries that will shape early detection technology and treatment for cancer in the very near future.
