Discovery Day and introducing Dr. Calum MacAulay

June 1, 2011

There are two exciting things to share with you this month. We have a new guest blogger, Dr. Calum MacAulay, and later this month is our inaugural Discovery Day event on June 21, 2011.

Dr. MacAulay will share his experience as a research scientist in the BC Cancer Agency’s Integrative Oncology department.  The work that Dr. MacAulay is a part of is truly fascinating, and focuses largely on early cancer detection and developing devices to do so. He has a great way of explaining what he does, and I hope you find it interesting too.

Before I hand over the reins to Dr. MacAulay, I invite you to join me at Discovery Day – an event we are holding in co-operation with the Vancouver Board of Trade June 21st at the Four Seasons Hotel. Discovery Day 2011 will be a celebration of world-firsts coming out of the BC Cancer Agency that are giving cancer patients renewed hope.

Leading researchers, clinicians and donors will share stories that emphasize the impact that research discoveries are having on patient care and how the partnership of research and philanthropy accelerates that process. This engaging afternoon will leave a lasting impression and include such guests as slam poet, Shane Koyczan, who stirred emotion at last year’s Olympic Opening Ceremonies, cancer survivor Andrea Shaw, two of BC Cancer Agency’s doctors, Dr. Marianne Sadar, Dr. Hagen Kennecke, and more.

This day will also highlight how the Agency’s unique partnership with the BC Cancer Foundation dramatically impacts the lives of cancer patients and their families in our province and beyond. If you would like to register for the event, here are the details:
