BC Cancer Foundation donors play an instrumental role in advancing cancer care in British Columbia. Their fundraising efforts ensure that the Agency is able to pursue projects that are essential for increasing knowledge and provide the very best treatment options for patients all across the province.
One excellent example is the Functional Imaging cyclotron and research facility at the Vancouver Centre which supplies the PET/CT program with radiopharmaceuticals for both clinical and research studies. Without the support of donors, this world-class facility would not exist and many of the current projects would not be underway.
Supporting the Foundation allows individuals to directly impact the course of cancer research in B.C. and the cumulative effect of small donations cannot be overstated. Annual events such as the Ride to Conquer Cancer are a fantastic opportunity for both individuals and groups to support the effort.
In B.C. there are currently two publicly-funded PET/CT scanners, both located in Vancouver. The BC Cancer Foundation recently launched a fundraising campaign to expand the Agency’s PET/CT program to Victoria.
Having a PET/CT scanner in Victoria will dramatically ease the burden for families dealing with cancer in this community by removing the need to travel to Vancouver to obtain imaging which is now standard of care. We’re so grateful to have donors’ support to make this possible!
