Dr. Anna Tinker: My Background in Cancer Medicine

I’m Dr. Anna Tinker and it is my pleasure to be a contributor on the BC Cancer Foundation blog.

I’ll start off by telling you a little bit about myself: I grew up in Calgary, Alberta. During the course of my education, I wandered between B.C. and Alberta several times. My bachelor’s degree is from the University of British Columbia and my medical degree is from Calgary. I also trained in internal medicine in Calgary, but came back to Vancouver to complete my medical oncology training.

For two years I was a research fellow at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia. During that time I worked on the Australian Ovarian Cancer Study, studying the gene expression patterns of ovarian cancers. I have remained interested in research ever since.

I feel grateful to work and live in Vancouver and to be a BC Cancer Agency doctor. I’ve been very fortunate to collaborate in research with the OVCARE group in Vancouver and colleagues at the Deeley Research Centre in Victoria.

Motivation to continue with my work and research is easy to find. I see it every day, with women and their families looking for better results, longer, healthier lives, less toxic treatment and cures. I know we will achieve many of these things in the years to come. My colleagues and I are dedicated to this.
