Dr. Juanita Crook named Chair in Brachytherapy for Interior

Kelowna, BC – Today the BC Cancer Foundation announced that Dr. Juanita Crook has been appointed to the role of Chair in Brachytherapy at BC Cancer – Kelowna, a new role that will help transform care for people facing cancer in the Interior and beyond.

Dr. Crook is a radiation oncologist at BC Cancer – Kelowna and a pioneer in the field of brachytherapy – a quick and highly effective form of treatment that delivers a radiation dose directly to a tumour site internally via implanted seeds.

“Cancer is relentless. However, our team is now positioned to make a significant impact on care in the Interior and I am honoured to be the first-ever Chair in Brachytherapy for BC Cancer to continue to innovate vital research,” says Dr. Crook.

Known globally as a leading expert in the field, Dr. Crook’s dedication to advancing scientific breakthroughs, moving the dial in medicine, fostering leadership and academic excellence has garnered accolades and respect from doctors and peers across North America.

As the Chair in Brachytherapy, Dr. Crook will lead a world-class program that will usher in a new era of excellence, propelling leading-edge innovations and changing outcomes for people facing cancer.

The BC Cancer Foundation kicked off a $3.5 million campaign for the Chair in Brachytherapy role and program and local communities have showed an outpouring of support towards the cause.

Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran appreciates the immense impact having a local Chair in Brachytherapy will bring.

“Having a person based in Kelowna to lead the widespread adoption of image-guided brachytherapy across B.C. is an impressive endorsement of BC Cancer-Kelowna’s excellence,” says Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran. “As a leader in cancer care and an emerging leader in technology in B.C., Kelowna has all the attributes necessary to take the next major step in breaking down cancer.”
