BC Cancer Foundation is pleased to announce Wyatt McMurray, former Cache Creek municipal councillor and a respected business leader, has joined its Interior Transformation Council in support of the Foundation’s $5 million campaign to bring cutting-edge technology to support radiation therapy at the new BC Cancer centre in Kamloops.

Wyatt is rallying his community to support families facing cancer.

Wyatt served as a city councillor in Cache Creek for over 30 years, while also building one of the largest A&W franchise groups in Canada, with locations across B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Yukon. As both a civic and business leader, he brings valuable insight and a strong voice for Thompson-Cariboo communities as the new centre moves forward.

The Interior Transformation Council brings together leaders from across the region who are committed to expanding access to life-saving cancer care closer to home. With deep local roots and a legacy of public service, Wyatt will help engage community support to ensure families in Kamloops and beyond can access world-class care without the burden of travel.

“Cancer has impacted my life in deeply personal ways,” says Wyatt. “I’ve seen how difficult it is when care is far away, and how transformative it can be when it’s close to home. This new centre will make a meaningful difference for our region – I encourage the community to join me in supporting this vital project.”

The Council has already championed major advancements at BC Cancer – Kelowna, including the expansion of research capabilities that benefit patients across the Interior. Their focus is now on ensuring the new Kamloops centre is equipped with the latest technology and resources to deliver exceptional care.

With the new BC Cancer centre, patients in Kamloops and surrounding communities will have access to radiation therapy – one of the most critical components of cancer treatment – without having to travel to Kelowna or Vancouver. The centre will feature advanced radiation technology and be staffed by expert clinical teams, improving access and easing the burden on families across the Thompson-Cariboo.

“We’re honoured to welcome Wyatt to the Interior Transformation Council,” says Pardeep Khrod, Associate Vice President, Development, BC Cancer Foundation. “His leadership and commitment to the region will be instrumental as we work to bring advanced cancer care for the thousands of local families facing the disease each year.”
