BC Cancer Foundation is thrilled to announce the 2024 Tour de Cure, presented by Wheaton Precious Metals has raised over $7.3 million to advance groundbreaking cancer research and care enhancements at BC Cancer.
The annual event is B.C.’s largest cycling fundraiser and has raised over $131 million to support BC Cancer since its inception in 2009.
Over 1,500 cyclists set out Saturday on a two-day journey from Cloverdale to Hope. Each participant has their own reason to ride – whether they have faced cancer themselves, supported loved ones through the disease or are BC Cancer staff members who see daily the critical need to advance research. Together, they made a 200km trip through the Fraser Valley – or 260km for those on the ‘Challenge Route’ – with an overnight camp in Chilliwack.
“Thanks to the unwavering support of our Tour de Cure riders, sponsors and volunteers, BC Cancer is pioneering life-saving research and transforming care,” says Sarah Roth, President & CEO, BC Cancer Foundation. “It is a privilege to ride along this dedicated and passionate community, united in our commitment to create a world free from the fear of cancer.”
“We are truly inspired by the remarkable strides in cancer research made possible by Tour de Cure since we joined the ride as presenting sponsor a decade ago,” says Randy Smallwood, President & CEO, Wheaton Precious Metals. “Our own team, the Silver Bullets, is honoured to ride and fundraise each year for our colleagues, our loved ones and all those facing this devastating disease.”
Every year, over 30,000 British Columbians are diagnosed with cancer and the event’s impact reaches every corner of the province. Funds from Tour de Cure have supported crucial programs at BC Cancer including, fuelling cutting-edge immunotherapy research, helping establish Canada’s first provincial lung cancer screening program and supporting over 100 clinical trials annually.
Registration for the 2025 event is now open! The ride will take place on August 23-24, 2025.
