VANCOUVER, B.C –The BC Cancer Foundation is pleased to announce Valley First as the leadership sponsor of the Golf Classic in Memory of Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins. The sponsorship will enhance the annual event’s support of life-saving cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency.
The BC Cancer Foundation’s Golf Classic in Memory of Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins raises funds to support cancer research and enhancements to patient care at the BC Cancer Agency’s Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins Centre for the Southern Interior. The event honours Sindi’s legacy of improving cancer care for patients in her hometown through her many philanthropic efforts.
“Valley First is delighted to have the opportunity to be the leadership sponsor of this tremendous event,” says Angela Brown, VP, Marketing & Corporate Citizenship. “The Golf Classic in Memory of Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins helps in the effort to put an end to such a deadly disease. As a local financial institution, we are thrilled to be able to play a part in this important fight.”
Long time Golf Classic participant and chief physician of the BC Cancer Agency’s Centre for the Southern Interior, Dr. Marianne Taylor says support from the event injects critical funds into ongoing cancer research initiatives in Kelowna. “With the annual support from the Golf Classic, we’re able to grow our research programs and continue to improve upon standard therapies—allowing more patients to live long cancer-free lives,” she says.
“The funds raised by Sindi and this tournament allowed us to develop the first site for an outreach bone marrow transplant clinic outside of the lower mainland, and we continue her efforts for the benefit of cancer patients treated in our community,” adds Dr. Taylor.
The event features a day of philanthropy and fun with 18 holes of golf, a shared power cart, activities at each hole, followed by a dinner and live and silent auctions.
“The Golf Classic is a special day where we remember and honour Sindi and her positive impact on the cancer landscape in our province and build upon her legacy by raising funds to support exciting new cancer research initiatives in the Southern Interior,” says Douglas Nelson, President & CEO of the BC Cancer Foundation. “Tickets are still available and I encourage others to join the Foundation and the Golf Classic’s new leadership sponsor, Valley First, at the Harvest Golf Club on August 24th.”
