$825,000 Raised for Pancreatic Cancer Research at Capilano Volkswagen Cypress Challenge

July 28, 2025

This weekend, a record 906 cyclists and 65 teams took on the climb up Cypress Mountain for the 18th annual Capilano Volkswagen Cypress Challenge, presented by Glotman•Simpson Cycling, raising $825,000 in support of vital pancreatic cancer research at BC Cancer.

Proceeds benefit the BC Cancer Foundation, the fundraising partner of BC Cancer and the largest philanthropic funder of cancer research and care in the province.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer, with a five-year survival rate of just 10%. But thanks to the continued dedication of riders, donors and sponsors, Capilano Volkswagen Cypress Challenge is helping accelerate research that is leading to earlier detection, better treatments and improved outcomes for patients across B.C.

“Thanks to the passion and commitment of everyone involved, this event is making a real difference in pancreatic cancer research and giving hope to families across B.C.,” said Sarah Roth, President & CEO, BC Cancer Foundation.

Since 2008, Capilano Volkswagen Cypress Challenge has raised over $6 million for the BC Cancer Foundation. Funds from this year’s event will support the work of BC Cancer’s world-leading pancreatic cancer research team, helping drive forward discoveries that will save lives.

The event brings together cyclists of all levels, united by a shared goal: to improve outcomes for people facing pancreatic cancer. Many have been personally impacted by the disease, making each kilometre climbed deeply meaningful.

“It’s incredibly powerful to see our cycling community come together year after year,” said Geoffrey Glotman, Executive Director, Glotman•Simpson Cycling. “Capilano Volkswagen Cypress Challenge is about more than the climb – it’s about creating change that will save lives.”
