Vancouver – The BC Cancer Foundation has been selected as one of Canada’s top-performing charities in the 2012 report produced by Charity Intelligence (Ci) Canada. Selected for its ability to provide high returns on donor investments, the BC Cancer Foundation is among forty-five outstanding charities in the country bestowed with the Top Pick ranking.

“Charity Intelligence has confirmed what our 110,000 donors already know, giving to the BC Cancer Foundation is the best way to change the course of cancer research and care in B.C.,” says Douglas Nelson, President & CEO, BC Cancer Foundation. “We are honoured to have been selected as a Top Pick—this is validation for all of our efforts to ensure effective management of donor dollars.”

The report highlights the Foundation’s long-term support of world-leading research programs, such as BC’s Ovarian Cancer Research Program (OvCaRe) where additional grant support has been generated and major advances made. OvCaRe’s renowned team has uncovered genetic factors responsible for ovarian cancer and clinical solutions for patients, including a locally developed clinical tool that detects the FOXL2 mutation helping to improve ovarian cancer diagnosis and alleviate unnecessary treatment.

“This year’s Top Pick Charities have proven that they are both efficient and effective. They are not only able to run their operations cost efficiently, but more importantly, they produce bottom-line results in enhancing the lives of their clients. For donors who are looking for the most impact from their giving, these charities are ones to invest in” says Greg Thomson, Director of Research at Charity Intelligence.

BC Cancer Foundation donors are advancing cancer care by supporting experts at the BC Cancer Agency who are committed to improving early detection and treatments, and to finding cures to all cancers.
