VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Ride to Conquer Cancer, benefitting the BC Cancer Foundation, announced an exciting new commitment from Silver Wheaton. The Vancouver-based precious metal streaming company is the Presenting Sponsor of the B.C. Ride to Conquer Cancer in 2014 through to 2016—supporting the largest cycling fundraiser in B.C. history.
Over five years, the Ride to Conquer Cancer has raised an incredible $50 million for the BC Cancer Foundation, supporting life-saving research at the BC Cancer Agency.
“Silver Wheaton is proud to become the lead sponsor for the B.C. Ride to Conquer Cancer,” said Randy Smallwood, President and CEO of Silver Wheaton. “With a staggering one in three British Columbians diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, this cause is quite personal for many of our employees and their families. Our company is honoured to be supporting the BC Cancer Foundation’s vision for a world free of cancer.”
Silver Wheaton is a long-time supporter of The Ride, and Smallwood is a four-time participant who has experienced firsthand the compelling movement of thousands hitting the pavement and pedaling more than 250 km through the Pacific Northwest over two days in support of research that is helping to improve the way cancer is prevented, detected and treated.
With over $50 million raised in five-years, Ride dollars are hard at work in the hands of expert scientists and clinicians at the BC Cancer Agency who are leading major world-first breakthroughs in the genetic understanding of and personal treatments for cancer.
“The BC Cancer Foundation is proud to welcome Silver Wheaton as our presenting sponsor of the Ride to Conquer Cancer,” said Douglas Nelson, President & CEO, BC Cancer Foundation. “Silver Wheaton will help to make a positive impact on the lives of British Columbians diagnosed with cancer today and well into the future.”
The 2014 Ride to Conquer Cancer is taking place on June 14 – 15, 2014. Registration is open, to learn more, visit our events page.
