2019 Hope Couture

The BC Cancer Foundation’s sixth annual Hope Couture presented by Legacy Senior Living - The Leo Wertman Residence announces more than $700,000 raised to launch a cutting-edge pancreatic rapid access clinic at BC Cancer – Vancouver.

“Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death in Canada, and unless more effective treatment strategies are found, it’s projected to become the second leading cause by 2030,” says Dr. Daniel Renouf, medical oncologist, BC Cancer and co-founder of Pancreas Centre BC. “Our team is immensely grateful to Hope Couture guests and Foundation donors for helping us kick-start this crucial clinic.”

Philanthropic funds raised at Hope Couture will help to change outcomes and bring hope to the more than 800 people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in our province each year. The pancreatic rapid access clinic at BC Cancer – Vancouver will be the first of its kind in Western Canada, providing expedited access to consults with multiple specialists, rapid diagnostic testing, cutting-edge genetic profiling and innovative research within one clinic.

Held at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel, guests of the fashion show and luncheon were taken to “Sunset on the Serengeti” with lively décor and an energetic live auction. Vancouver boutique retailers Bacci's and Boboli impressed the audience with stunning fashions from their fall and winter collections, including pieces from Chloé, Valentino, Dries Van Noten, Stella McCartney, Giambattista Valli and more.

Our Vision: The Pancreatic Cancer Rapid Access Clinic

For people facing pancreatic cancer, time is precious. Every day, BC Cancer’s team of experts races against the clock to confirm patient diagnoses and decide on the best course of treatment, but for most people it’s not happening fast enough.

Patients often need to be seen by several specialists and there can be significant delays in arranging these appointments and subsequent tests. During this time, the cancer can progress.

Our vision is to create a rapid access clinic at BC Cancer, where:
• specialist consults are consolidated into a single visit on a single day;
• testing is expedited;
• cutting edge genetic profiling is performed at the time of diagnosis, leading to tailored therapies for each individual patient.
• the clinical research team can discuss potential experimental treatment options

Not only will this clinic significantly minimize stress for patients and families, it will dramatically reduce the time elapsed between diagnosis and the start of treatment.

By relieving some of their greatest anxieties, we can help patients cope better. By managing their care more efficiently, we can help give them their best chance for survival.

We invite you to join us in launching the Pancreatic Cancer Rapid Access Clinic at the 2019 Hope Couture. Welcome to the future of pancreatic cancer care.

Live & Silent Auction

Live Auction Package #1 - Celebrate with a Rose

Vogue Rose
The Vogue Rose

Do you have an anniversary coming up? Or is there a significant birthday celebration or the birth of a grandchild in the near future?  This is a unique opportunity to create and name a rose for that special someone or moment in your life. Whether to celebrate a milestone, remember a loved one or if you just want the opportunity to create a rose as beautiful as you, this once-in-a-lifetime experience is what you’ve been looking for!

Internationally renowned rose breeder Brad Jalbert of Select Roses will work exclusively with you to create a one-of-a-kind rose. Brad has hybridized roses for extraordinary people including Bette Midler, Lorretta Lynn, opera singer Dimitri Hvorostovsky and the Nottingham Forest Football Club. The rose he created honouring Bette Midler was named The Divine Miss M by the New York Botanical Gardens. Ms. Midler requested that her rose be bawdy, bold but also divine and that is exactly what she received.  Brad also recently created the stunning Vogue Rose for Vogue Magazine to celebrate the publication’s 125th anniversary.

If you are looking for a rose that is soft and sweet with a touch of pink or something that is bold and sassy, Brad will work with you to create the perfect rose out of the bank of seedlings. You will have the opportunity to choose not only the colour and petal shape but the fragrance as well. If you can’t find your rose the first year, don’t fret, as you will have the opportunity to come back the following year to ensure your rose is absolutely and perfectly suited to the person honoured or celebration commemorated.

Once you have created your ideal rose, it will be registered with the American Rose Society and will forevermore be called by its given name. To commemorate this rare experience, you will receive the first 10 rose bushes once they have been established. This is a living gift that lasts for generations!

Valid only in the spring. Certain limitations apply with creating a rose as some fragrances cannot be paired with certain colours. May take up to two years to receive rose bushes.

Generously Donated by: Brad Jalbert’s Select Roses
