Current Priorities

Drive Technology Transformation

Enhancing BC Cancer – Vancouver’s technology infrastructure will elevate every level of cancer care—from diagnostics and imaging to treatments and research—improving outcomes and fostering a future-focused hub of innovation.

The revitalized technology suite will include:

  • Cutting-edge innovations and artificial intelligence to deliver ultra-precise treatments
  • A Next Gen PET/CT, drastically increasing the scanner’s speed, sensitivity and accuracy with the potential to significantly increase capacity
  • Streamlining services to provide the highest standard of care, while expanding BC Cancer’s ability to treat our growing population

Expand Immunotherapy Research

BC Cancer’s provincial immunotherapy program is dedicated to developing the next generation CAR-T immunotherapies to target a wide range of cancers. CAR-T therapy uses genetically engineered T-cells from a patient’s own body to attack and destroy cancer cells.

BC Cancer is at the forefront of this groundbreaking field, advancing research through:

  • Developing new treatments and participating in clinical trials for leukemia and lymphomas
  • Expanding research into new therapies for solid tumours, including ovarian and pancreatic
  • Collaboration with national and international partners to expand CAR-T research and enhance treatment delivery

Advance Genomics Research

BC Cancer’s genomics program helps personalize treatments by understanding cancer’s unique genetic and environmental drivers – identifying patients who may not respond to standard treatments, redirecting them to more effective options.

Genomic breakthroughs are leading to new treatments across various cancer types:

  • Breast Cancer – Exploring whole genome analysis for treating Triple Negative Breast Cancer
  • Pancreatic Cancer – Genomic sequencing is uncovering new subtypes to develop personalized treatments
  • Lung Cancer – Genomics is enhancing the effectiveness of immunotherapy
  • Head and Neck Cancer – PATH (Personalized Approaches in the Treatment of Head and Neck Cancers) program uses genomics to identify more effective therapies

Progress Clinical Trials & Research

BC Cancer is at the forefront of ground-breaking clinical trials and research. From award-winning COVID-19 research to landmark discoveries in ovarian and breast cancer, donor impact continues to fuel improved patient outcomes and providing new treatment options for all British Columbians.

Clinical Trials & Research Priorities:

  • Fuel world-first clinical trials to advance vital research across all cancer areas
  • Empower scientists with resources and infrastructure to create new experimental initiatives
  • Extend access to trials and treatment options to families in remote areas
  • Shepherd the development of new and innovative drug treatments
