The BC Cancer Foundation is a provincial organization whose sole purpose is to raise funds that support cancer research and enhancements to patient care at the BC Cancer Agency. We are the largest charitable funder of cancer research in this province. We enable donors to make contributions to leading-edge research that has a direct impact on improvements to cancer care for patients in British Columbia. What we raise in BC, stays in BC.

The BC Cancer Agency, an Agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority, provides a comprehensive cancer control program for the people of BC and Yukon, including prevention, screening and early detection programs, research and education, and care and treatment.

Each year, over 23,000 British Columbians are diagnosed with cancer. More than one in three British Columbians will develop some form of cancer in their lifetime. British Columbians experience the lowest rates of cancer incidence and the lowest rates of cancer mortality, anywhere in Canada.

The BC Cancer Agency’s population-based cancer control model ensures that care and treatment standards and protocols are the same across the province, for every British Columbian. Treating every cancer patient in BC the same also means that the BC Cancer Agency has developed a comprehensive database of clinical data for the past 50 years that provides a historic and ongoing record of treatments and outcomes. This database has become an invaluable tool for research at the BC Cancer Agency and is shared with other cancer treatment programs across Canada and globally.

Through the generosity of our donors, the BC Cancer Foundation was able to raise $39.3 million dollars for the BC Cancer Agency. This represents a 20 per cent increase over the prior year. Our total general and administrative cost per dollar raised is $0.10, which is the same as the prior year.

The BC Cancer Foundation continues to fund more cancer research in BC than any other charitable organization. In the last year, the BC Cancer Agency has announced major research breakthroughs in ovarian, breast and two in lymphoid cancers. These discoveries were published in leading international cancer and scientific journals and widely acknowledged in the global scientific community.

Our total general and administrative cost per dollar raises is $0.10.

Due to the variety of fundraising activities our only meaningful comparative measure is general and administrative costs per dollar raised, and we believe that our costs ($0.10) are in line with other similar charitable organizations.

We are very proud of and grateful to our donors that we have raised $39.3 million for the BC Cancer Agency. This is a significant accomplishment!

We will continue to do everything we can to reduce our administrative costs to ensure the maximum impact of each donated dollar.
