At BC Cancer – Abbotsford patients have access to:

  • World-class comprehensive cancer care and treatment close to home
  • One of the most advanced and active High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy sites in Canada
  • Comprehensive supportive services for patients
  • Leading-edge and rapidly expanding clinical trials programs and research opportunities for patients

Abbotsford Dental Clinic

For many patients undergoing treatment, dental problems emerge that must be addressed by an oral oncology expert.

Currently 40% of patients seen by BC Cancer – Surrey’s oral oncology team come from the eastern Fraser Valley.

We know that long-distance travel takes a significant emotional and physical toll, yet many cancer patients make the journey to access these vital services. As a result, BC Cancer – Surrey’s oral oncology service is rapidly reaching capacity.

Bringing oral oncology services “in house” to BC Cancer – Abbotsford will have a significant impact on patients across the Fraser Valley, as building a dental clinic at that centre will provide higher quality care closer to home and integrated oral cancer care for patients.

Clinical Trials

A strong clinical trials program is fundamental to progress in cancer research and care. Thanks to donor support, BC Cancer – Abbotsford has become a key participant in the advancement of clinical trials in B.C. and has successfully established a leading-edge program.

Clinical trials provide new hope for patients by translating results from the lab or clinic into more effective treatment options. Even for cancers with many available treatment options, we continue to strive to find treatments that:

  • are more effective
  • are applicable to a larger number of patients
  • have fewer side effects

Personalized treatment is the future of cancer care, and research at BC Cancer continues to affirm that subtypes of cancer must be identified and treated distinctly. BC Cancer – Abbotsford’s clinical trials program plays a crucial role in this movement, and the results are having a real and lasting impact, improving outcomes for patients in our province.
