Help Support a New State-of-the-Art Cancer Centre in Surrey

We are partnering with the provincial government to support the development of a second BC Cancer Centre in Surrey. In the last year, Surrey’s population growth almost doubled that of Vancouver. A new cancer centre is a vital necessity for the increased health needs of local families.

The new BC Cancer Centre in Surrey will:

  • Offer enhanced access to first-rate cancer care for thousands of Fraser Region families
  • Provide cancer patients with 54 new chemotherapy chairs – doubling treatment capacity in the region
  • Shorten waiting and journey times for locals
  • Feature innovative technology, including room for six new linear accelerators, two leading-edge PET-CT scanners and a cyclotron

Orthovoltage Radiation Treatment (ORT) Unit

BC Cancer – Surrey’s ORT unit is essential for treating non-melanoma skin cancers in sensitive areas of the body. A new, advanced unit will help ensure continued access to precise, specialized care closer to home for people in the Fraser region.

Why the ORT unit matters:

  • Faster access to treatment, often within one week of referral
  • Fewer appointments and more streamlined care, reducing travel and time in clinic
  • Improved comfort for elderly and frail individuals
  • Frees up other radiation equipment, helping reduce wait times
  • Maintains access to specialized treatment available only in the Lower Mainland

  • Ease the burden of travelling for treatment by providing local patients with access to cutting-edge care, closer to home
  • Advance research into more effective treatments and therapies with fewer side effects
  • Enable more personalized care through innovative research in cancer subtypes and genomics
