BC Cancer Foundation’s 9th annual Workout to Conquer Cancer fundraising challenge has raised a record $1.6 million to advance life-saving research and care at BC Cancer.
Workout to Conquer Cancer is a month-long event encouraging participants to move for at least 30 minutes every day in May while fundraising for the Foundation. This year, more than 2,200 participants and 150 teams from across B.C. joined the challenge to help raise vital funds.
Since its launch in 2017 as a grassroots fundraiser, the event has raised over $7 million. Every dollar raised stays in B.C. to fuel innovative research, groundbreaking clinical trials and world-class care for British Columbians facing cancer.
“By participating in Workout to Conquer Cancer, we’re not only transforming the future of cancer care but we’re also showing families impacted by cancer that they are not alone — there is a community rallying behind them, offering hope and strength,” says Sarah Roth, President & CEO, BC Cancer Foundation.
The family of Myles Lindsay knows firsthand the difference the event makes. They joined Workout to Conquer Cancer after Myles was diagnosed with a rare stomach cancer, helping him raise an incredible $92,000 in 2021 and $225,000 in 2022 before he passed away at 15 years old. “It was amazing how our community came together,” says Lana Lindsay, Myles’ mom.
2025 marks the family’s fifth year participating in the event as part of Team Miles for Myles. “It’s a way to honour and cherish all of our memories of Myles and get out there and do something to make a difference for other families,” Lana adds.
This year also marks the introduction of the event’s Mylestone Award, with Team Miles for Myles receiving the inaugural honour. Created in memory of Myles, the award celebrates the profound impact he and his family have made through their fundraising efforts. Each year, the award will be presented to an individual or team whose passion and dedication reflect the spirit of the Workout to Conquer Cancer community.
To move for a cause this summer, register for the Foundation’s cycling challenge, the Capilano Volkswagen Cypress Challenge presented by Glotman•Simpson Cycling. Taking place on July 27, 2025, participants cycle up Cypress Mountain in support of BC Cancer’s pancreatic cancer research and care.
