BC Cancer Foundation is proud to announce a landmark $1 million donation from Wheaton Precious Metals (“Wheaton”) to support the Foundation’s historic BC Cancer Technology Transformation campaign. This investment will help bring state-of-the-art imaging and treatment technologies to British Columbia and builds on a 15-year partnership between the Foundation and Wheaton.
The $50 million Technology Transformation campaign is the Foundation’s largest fundraising initiative to date in support of BC Cancer – Vancouver. BC Cancer – Vancouver is the province’s busiest cancer centre and the referral centre for the most complex care cases. This suite of best-in-class technologies will ensure patients from across the province have access to life-saving care where and when they need it, including:
- First-in-Canada Imaging: BC Cancer’s new Photon Counting CT and Next Generation PET/CT scanners deliver ultra-high resolution imaging, faster scan times, unprecedented diagnostic accuracy and reduced radiation exposure for patients.
- Contrast Enhanced Mammography (CEM): This mammography unit revolutionizes early breast cancer detection for women with dense breast tissue – approximately 43% of women in B.C. It is able to uncover previously hidden tumours and provide better monitoring of chemotherapy effectiveness.
- Precision Radiation Therapy: Three new technologies – a Magnetic Resonance Simulator, High-Precision Linear Accelerator and MRI Linear Accelerator – will enable more targeted, personalized radiation treatments, reducing side effects and wait times for patients across B.C.
“Wheaton Precious Metals is a remarkable partner of BC Cancer Foundation, and their continued generosity is helping ensure British Columbian families have access to the most advanced cancer care technology available anywhere in Canada,” says Sarah Roth, President & CEO, BC Cancer Foundation.
“Our commitment is rooted in a simple belief: everyone deserves the best care when facing cancer,” says Randy Smallwood, CEO, Wheaton Precious Metals. “By supporting BC Cancer, we’re investing in a future where care is faster, more precise and driven by innovation to improve patient outcomes.”
Wheaton demonstrates its commitment to BC Cancer through meaningful and active community engagement, with sponsorship of the Foundation’s annual fundraising events including Workout to Conquer Cancer, Cypress Challenge, presented by Glotman •Simpson Cycling and as the long-time presenting sponsor of the former Tour de Cure cycling fundraiser. Wheaton employees are also dedicated participants of these events, individually raising funds for the Foundation. Notably, riding under the team banner, ‘the Silver Bullets’, riders raised over $2.6 million through the Tour de Cure to support cancer research and care since 2010.
