Workout to Conquer Cancer Raises $1.4 Million in Milestone 10th Year

June 2, 2026

BC Cancer Foundation’s Workout to Conquer Cancer has marked its 10-year anniversary with a milestone $1.4 million raised by over 2,100 participants across nearly 150 teams in support of cancer research and care across B.C.

Since launching in 2017, Workout to Conquer Cancer has united communities across the province through a simple but powerful commitment: move every day in May and fundraise to change the future of cancer care. This year’s campaign represents a decade of collective action, with thousands of participants turning everyday movement into meaningful impact.

Funds raised through Workout to Conquer Cancer stay in British Columbia, supporting life-saving research, clinical trials and enhanced care for patients and families facing cancer.

“For 10 years, Workout to Conquer Cancer has brought together British Columbians to advance cancer research and care in our province,” says Sarah Roth, President & CEO, BC Cancer Foundation. “Because of this community, clinical trials are moving forward, new technologies are reaching patients and more families across the province are accessing innovative treatment.”

Over the past decade, Workout to Conquer Cancer has raised more than $8.5 million in support of BC Cancer, contributing to:

  • Clinical trials: BC Cancer runs one of the busiest clinical trials networks in Canada, with more than 380 active trials offering patients across the province access to cutting-edge treatment options.
  • Advanced technology and equipment: Investments are helping equip BC Cancer with leading diagnostic, imaging and radiation technologies, including first-in-Canada innovations such as a Next Generation PET/CT scanner and a Photon Counting CT scanner.
  • Reducing barriers to care: Donor-funded programs like the Patient Relief Fund provide practical support for patients and families, including grocery gift cards, medications, transportation and specialized nutrition, ensuring more people can access the care they need.

Participants of all fitness levels took part in this year’s challenge, with individuals and teams moving in ways that worked for them throughout May, from walking and cycling to strength training and community fundraising initiatives.

Looking ahead, and to keep the momentum going, registration is now open for The Beedie Living Cypress Challenge, presented by Glotman•Simpson Cycling, taking place on Sunday, July 26. The BC Cancer Foundation’s signature cycling fundraiser supports life-saving pancreatic cancer research at BC Cancer.
