Workout To Conquer Cancer Raises a Record-breaking $1.1M Benefiting BC Cancer Patients

June 8, 2021

Over 2,300 strong from British Columbia and beyond came together to move every day in May raising a new record of $1.1 million for BC Cancer Foundation’s Workout to Conquer Cancer.

Participants from across the province broke a sweat 31 days straight to support people facing cancer across B.C.

“We are so grateful and inspired to see patients, survivors and loved ones come together to support this challenge after a difficult year and set a new fundraising record, “says Sarah Roth, President & CEO, BC Cancer Foundation. “On behalf of our Foundation, I extend a huge thank you to our participants across B.C. and beyond, for moving with us and for your dedication to changing cancer outcomes.”

Whether it was an online fitness class or an outdoor stroll or bike ride, participants showed their commitment to the challenge and cause. Their fundraising efforts will help advance cancer research and care, providing new hope for families impacted by cancer after an unprecedented year.

Workout’s top fundraising team is ‘Miles for Myles’, who committed to move all month in support of 14-year-old Myles Lindsay, who was recently diagnosed with Stage IV gastric cancer.

Driven by a passion to improve outcomes for patients like Myles, the team’s hard work resulted in an incredible $89,786 raised.

Miles for Myles team captain, Susan Richardson, is Myles’s aunt.

Workout has allowed us to feel useful and purposeful in the face of this terrible disease,” she says. “Myles has been an absolute warrior. Positive, uncomplaining and just forging ahead with his chemo and other treatments. His family and all the team members are so thankful for the outpouring of support and donations”

Team Miles for Myles has individual participants who pushed their fundraising goals to new heights as well –  the Myles Lindsay family is Workout’s top individual fundraiser, raising $42,545.
