Precision Radiation

Expand Precision Radiation Therapy

The Foundation is fundraising $2.2 million to support SIMPLIFY – an international cutting-edge, precision radiation therapy clinical trial led by BC Cancer – Prince George. This innovation is expected to reduce treatment side effects and increase the chance of complete remission in metastatic cancer cases when compared with traditional radiation therapies.

SIMPLIFY will be available at all six BC Cancer centres and at least 15 international sites.

SIMPLIFY and Precision Radiation Therapy:

  • Reduces toxicity side effects from treatment and increase the chance of a complete remission for patients with metastatic cancer
  • Expands opportunities for patients in northern communities to participate in new clinical trials
  • Will help shape the future of precision radiation therapy internationally and further demonstrate BC Cancer’s global leadership in cancer research and innovation
Patient Comfort

Support the Patient Relief Fund

Help Northern patients receive the care they need with financial, travel, and resource support, regardless of where they call home. The Patient Relief Fund is essential to removing financial, geographical, and cultural barriers to equitable care in every region.

The Patient Relief Fund:

  • Assists with the cost of travel, accommodation and groceries while undergoing treatment away from home;
  • Provide coverage for some treatment-related expenses, such as medical supplies, nutritional supplements and medications;
  • Helps with the financial cost of dental work required by some patients; and
  • Addresses the gap in equitable care gap with a specific portion of funds going to Indigenous people facing cancer

Wheelin’ Warriors of the North

At the 2023 Tour de Cure, the 76-member-strong Wheelin’ Warriors raised over $295,000 to support cancer research and care in the North. Made up of current and past patients, loved ones, passionate community members and BC Cancer staff from Prince George and neighbouring communities, the Wheelin’ Warriors have raised an incredible $1.6 million since their creation in 2013 by Karin Piche, who continues to captain the team.

KPMG - Prince George

"Residents of northern BC are at a significant disadvantage when it comes to the cost of travel related to cancer care. When we saw that the number of patients have steadily increased since the opening of our BC Cancer Centre for the North and over two thirds of those patients have come from surrounding communities, what better opportunity to help those around us then to contribute to the Northern Patient Relief Fund. Growing up in Terrace, BC with sick family members, I know the cost of flights and lodging can add to an already stressful time when our loved ones need to focus on their care. If our KPMG donation can help alleviate even one family from the financial burden of getting the care they need then we are happy to support in any way we can." “Many of us have had loved ones treated at BC Cancer – Prince George and know the importance of the work done in the centre. I’m proud to be able to give back, knowing the research they’re conducting here will improve lives in our city and across the world. I hope this gift inspires others to join in support of the BC Cancer Foundation.” – Selen Alpay

The possibilities are unbelievable

“I joined BC Cancer — Prince George (Centre for the North) because I was inspired by what I saw as a medical student coming up in the organization. The physicians, the multidisciplinary teams and the patients I’ve been honoured to work with in the North all point to these next steps in cancer care being the most important for B.C. and the world.”
