Serving Surrey and the central Fraser Valley region, patients at BC Cancer – Surrey have access to assessment and diagnostic services, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, clinical trials and a robust patient and family counselling program.

Chemotherapy Suite Expansion

By 2027, it is anticipated that one in three new cancer diagnoses will come from the Fraser Health region. Many of these patients will require chemotherapy. To support this increase, a $1 million fundraising goal will create a new Chemotherapy Suite to elevate care and bring hope to thousands of families across the region.

The expansion will include six to ten new specially-designed chemotherapy chairs to ensure patient comfort and effective treatment during intravenously-delivered chemotherapy, and will increase capacity by an additional 700-900 infusions per month.

By renovating and upgrading the BC Cancer – Surrey space, 90% of newly diagnosed patients could begin treatment within a two-week window.

Cervical Cancer Screening Pilot Program Launched

Dr. Dirk van Niekerk, medical director, Cervical Screening Program, BC Cancer, is leading a study using an online platform for self-collection HPV testing, with an aim to improve cervical cancer screening rates specifically in the Fraser Region.

Despite the success of B.C.’s cervical cancer screening program, women who do not regularly attend screening are at higher risk for cervical cancer. New strategies are needed to overcome barriers for conventional screening and improve uptake among non-attenders.

This at-home cervical screening pilot began in the Fraser Valley region, and in 2021 expanded to pilot sites in Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.

Expanded Pharmacy Will Save More Lives

The Dukh Nivaran Pharmacy at BC Cancer – Surrey was officially unveiled in January 2021 and will support the growing number of cancer patients in Surrey and surrounding cities.

This expanded, state-of-the-art on-site pharmacy, where life-saving chemotherapy treatments are prepared, will help save more lives throughout the entire Fraser Health region.
