Current Priorities

Help Support a New State-of-the-Art Cancer Centre in Surrey

We are partnering with the provincial government to support the development of a second BC Cancer Centre in Surrey. In the last year, Surrey’s population growth almost doubled that of Vancouver. A new cancer centre is a vital necessity for the increased health needs of local families.

The new BC Cancer Centre in Surrey will:

Offer enhanced access to first-rate cancer care for thousands of Fraser Region families
Provide cancer patients with 54 new chemotherapy chairs – doubling treatment capacity in the region
Shorten waiting and journey times for locals
Feature innovative technology, including room for six new linear accelerators, two leading-edge PET-CT scanners and a cyclotron

Expanding Care in Burnaby

BC Cancer Foundation is fundraising $10 million to support the new BC Cancer centre planned for Burnaby. The BC Cancer – Burnaby McCarthy Centre is essential to meeting the cancer care needs of the rapidly expanding Fraser region communities.

BC Cancer – Burnaby McCarthy Centre will:

Include ambulatory care rooms, chemotherapy chairs, oncology pharmacy, radiation therapy, and PET/CTs
Feature space for leading-edge clinical trials to advance vital research across all cancer types
Greatly increase BC Cancer’s capacity in the Fraser region and ensure families have timely access to world-class cancer care close to home

Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Center

Abbotsford Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are essential to advancing cancer research and care, and BC Cancer – Abbotsford is actively participating in these trials thanks to donor support. This leading-edge program is making significant strides in improving patient outcomes.

These clinical trials will:

Providing local patients access to cutting-edge care close to home
Research is focused on developing treatments that are more effective and have fewer side effects
Personalized care is advanced through groundbreaking research in cancer subtypes and genomics

Support the Patient Relief Fund

Help Fraser Region patients receive the care they need with financial, travel, and resource support, regardless of where they call home. The Patient Relief Fund helps remove financial, geographical, and cultural barriers to equitable care in every region.

The Patient Relief Fund

Assists with the cost of travel, accommodation and groceries while undergoing treatment away from home
Provides coverage for some treatment-related expenses, such as medical supplies, nutritional supplements and medications
Helps with the financial cost of dental work required by some patients
Addresses the gap in equitable care gap with a specific portion of funds going to Indigenous people facing cancer

Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society

As part of their commitment to the local community, the Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society has generously donated $500,000 to support the second BC Cancer centre in Surrey and bring expanded access to cancer care close to home for Fraser region patients and families.

Manjit Lit

A group of Fraser region business leaders led by Manjit Lit have come together to raise over $260,000 for the BC Cancer Foundation to support BC Cancer – Surrey’s chemotherapy suite expansion.
