Kelowna Surgical Oncology Research Fund

BC Cancer – Kelowna has launched the first Surgical Oncology Research Program, thanks to donor support. Funding this groundbreaking program is crucial to improving patient care in the Interior and beyond.

The Surgical Oncology Research Program will:

  • Launch surgical oncology clinical trials for highly prevalent cancers, including breast, thyroid and melanoma
  • Bring less invasive and more effective treatment options to patients
  • Create leading-edge research opportunities at BC Cancer – Kelowna, attracting and retaining top talent
Kamloops

New BC Cancer Centre in Kamloops

Development of a new BC Cancer centre is underway in Kamloops, expanding access to cancer care in the Interior. The BC Cancer Foundation will be fundraising to bring state-of-the-art equipment and cutting-edge clinical trials to the new Centre.

The new BC Cancer centre in Kamloops will:

  • Include radiation therapy, an MRI suite, a CT simulator, exam rooms and out-patient ambulatory care
  • Complete 14,000 radiation treatment visits per year, diverting local patients from needing to travel to Kelowna to access care
  • Bring life-saving care and research closer to home for patients in Kamloops and the surrounding communities

Research & Development Hub

Research is essential to developing more precise, effective treatments to save more lives and decrease the impacts of cancer on our loved ones. BC Cancer – Kelowna’s new research hub will enable clinicians to initiate and accelerate research from lab to patient and will be the first dedicated research hub of its kind outside of Vancouver.

The Research & Development Hub will:

  • Create a dedicated team of clinical researchers, including three new clinical researcher positions, supported by medical fellows, a graduate student and project manager
  • Equip BC Cancer – Kelowna’s world-class clinicians with the resources to lead pioneering research projects and clinical trials
  • Foster a multi-disciplinary research approach integrating radiation, medical oncology and surgery to develop precise, minimally invasive and less toxic treatments
  • Build on the substantial investments the BC Cancer Foundation has made to elevate and expand research in Kelowna
  • Harness and elevate the collective power of these programs into an integrated, cohesive group of world-class experts

Kelowna Equipment Fund

The Foundation has created a dedicated fund at BC Cancer – Kelowna to ensure life-saving equipment can be acquired quickly, without delays. This resource enables teams to provide the best care possible by giving them immediate access to the tools they need, when they need them.

The Equipment Fund:

  • Supplies new, essential equipment to allow for more precise treatments with fewer side effects, improving patient experiences
  • Helps reduce wait times by enabling quicker acquisition of essential tools
  • Supports research with cutting-edge technology leading to better treatments for all BC Cancer patients
