Matthew Tan
Matthew Tan has spent almost 25 years at the University of British Columbia (UBC) as a student, staff, even senator both on the UBC Council of Senates and the UBC Vancouver Senate. At present, he is a member of the UBC Board of Governors, Vice-Chair of the Learning and Research Committee at the university, as well as a sitting member of the Finance and Governance committees, previously serving on Audit, Indigenous Engagement, and sub-committees such as Campus Vision 2050 and Nominations to the Board. He is also the Associate Director, Partnerships, at UBC Athletics and Recreation, the premier university athletics program in Canada with the most national championships in recent decades and the best and brightest student athletes.
Matt is directly responsible for partnerships between UBC and a hundred plus different organizations and companies from all sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Science from UBC and a Mini-MBA from the UBC Sauder School of Business. He is absolutely passionate about current events, mentoring young graduates and students, and giving back to the community.
He is a long-time Board member and current Vice-President for GRACE (the Global Resource for Advancing Cancer Education), and his personal connection to the cause hits close, having lost his mother, grandfather, aunt, uncle, friends and too many others to cancer throughout his life. But in honour of those still fighting cancer, and in loving memory of those gone too soon, he is an arduous advocate and ally in the fight against cancer. He has seen first-hand the incredible work that BC Cancer does and is proud to rally support for this great organization.
